– The interaction of parasitic plants with host plants on the molecular level. We are mainly interested in membrane-bound receptors that detect parasitic ligand molecules and initiate either susceptibility- or resistance-related signaling in hosts.
– The structure, function and development of Plasmodesmata (cell-cell contacts) and their special roles in Cuscuta-host plant interaction.
– Calcium-signaling via calcium sensing proteins and ion channels, its regulation and role for cell growth and plant stress responses.
– The components and molecular mechanisms of transport processes, including ion- or sugar transport.
– Membrane toxins of phytopathogenic microbes and their mode of action.
